Juneau the Capitol of Alaska

Description

I took this photo in Juneau, the capital of Alaska, on a bright, clear day that felt more like summer than what you’d expect from this rugged northern state. From the harbor, you can see the colorful facades of the waterfront buildings standing in cheerful contrast to the deep greens of the forested mountain rising steeply behind them. The purple, yellow, and red storefronts along the dock almost look like a row of toy houses lined up at the edge of the wilderness.

There’s a quiet energy in this scene—tourists wandering between shops, the distant hum of boat engines, and the steady rhythm of the water brushing against the pilings. The water itself is a deep, rich blue-green, reflecting both the clear sky and the thick trees above. In the far background, snow-capped peaks remind you that this is still Alaska, even if the day feels unusually warm.

Juneau may be small and only reachable by boat or plane, but it’s full of charm—part working port, part frontier outpost, and part postcard-perfect town tucked between sea and forest.
