India Gate

Description

I took this photo standing right beneath the grand arch of India Gate, looking upward to capture its illuminated glory against the deep night sky in New Delhi. The angle accentuates its monumental scale, with the camera pointing steeply upwards to emphasize the height and elegance of the sandstone structure.

The lighting steals the scene—vivid bands of saffron, white, and green drape the upper portions of the gate, a radiant homage to the Indian national flag. These colors aren't just decorative; they bring the monument to life, infusing it with emotion and national pride. Just beneath the word "INDIA" etched into the stone, the glowing white band is particularly striking, adding a soft contrast to the deeper red and green hues flanking it.

Built in 1931, India Gate stands as a war memorial, honoring the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives during World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. This perspective from below doesn’t just show stone and symmetry—it honors sacrifice and remembrance.
